WMG is seeking to recruit a Management Accountant to join its expanding finance team. The sucessful candidate would provide management information for the financial planning and monitoring of project activites and to provide related advice and guidance. In addition, you will assist with the management of financial processes.
You should possess financial management experience preferably including some experience in the public/ not for profit sector. Excellent command of financial software applications and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel spreadsheets is also essential, as is the ability to explain accounts to non-financial staff as you work closely with them in the development of research grant applications.

Job Purpose
To provide management information for the financial planning and monitoring of project activities and to provide related advice and guidance within WMG. To assist with the management of project financial processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
As part of the project’s planning and reporting cycles and internal financial management, work closely with Budget Holders to:
- Contribute to the production of detailed budgets and reporting for the project’s activities.
- Prepare and oversee budgets for centralised project activities for example, IT, Marketing, Workshops and Facilities.
Prepare detailed quarterly and year-end monitoring statements for projects, update out-turn forecasts and ensure that all variances from forecast are discussed with budget holders and fully analysed.
To act as an advisor on financial matters for project budget holders, including attending meetings to discuss and influence performance, advising on applying Financial Regulations, training Budget Holders and disseminating financial management best practice. To advise the Head of Financial Operations of any major emergent issues.
Contribute to the financial planning and control of project activities by:
- Preparing the costing element of the project proposals in the above areas to ensure accuracy and applicability and to maximise the financial return;
- Maintaining and improving systems for recording and monitoring financial activities to enable revenue, costs, overheads and individual staff funding to be accurately forecast throughout the planning cycle. Ensure that funding statements are kept up to date at all times and that regular meetings are held with all relevant stakeholders;
- Provide professional advice to ensure the correct procedures and processes are followed in relation to the overall administration of the activity;
Contribute to University and project working groups as required.
Maximise the use of SAP to improve the efficiency and flow of information;
Ensure that system notes to ensure financial procedures are fully documented and maintained for both finance staff and other users and are available on the WMG Finance Intranet where applicable.
