Cranfield defence and security (CDS) invites applications for the position of Professor of Cyber and Information Systems
Competitive open band commencing at £66,366 per annum
Cranfield Defence and Security (CDS) provides unique educational opportunities to the defence and security sectors of both public and private organisations. Based at the UK Defence Academy at Shrivenham in Oxfordshire, CDS is the academic provider to the UK Ministry of Defence for all postgraduate education and training in engineering, science, acquisition, management and leadership.
CDS also provides specialist knowledge to global industry, security and emergency services, military, governments and NGOs. Cranfield Defence and Security is underpinning defence and security development and reform around the world.
The post holder will identify new educational requirements in electronic, information and cyber systems, as well as warfare and security and develop solutions to meet these. They will also forge an active research agenda and generate bids for research funding to various bodies including research councils, industry and government. The successful candidate will enhance the University’s professional standing, reputation and impact through their thought leadership and cutting edge research programme in their subject area.
Successful candidates should have a track record of high quality research publications. Exceptional abilities in leading and attracting external funds for internationally leading research and experience in collaborative research involving academics from other disciplines. You will have proven experience in providing vision, leadership and support in the development of research and a track record of delivering excellence in teaching through teaching programmes or internationally recognised text books. There must also be a willingness to travel both within the UK and overseas as required. Candidates will have a PhD in an appropriate topic or related discipline.
Candidates applying will have appropriate experience for this post through either:
- An academic role, specialising in cyber activities and the analysis of cyber systems, warfare or security
- In the defence public sector or related industry as a consultant or analyst specializing in electronic, information & cyber systems, warfare, security and operations, with potential to develop in the academic environment
