Cranfield defence and security (CDS) invites applications for the position of Professor of Terrorism Risk Management and Resilience.
Competitive open band commencing at £66,366 per annum
Cranfield Defence and Security (CDS) provides unique educational opportunities to the defence and security sectors of both public and private organisations. Based at the UK Defence Academy at Shrivenham in Oxfordshire, CDS is the academic provider to the UK Ministry of Defence for all postgraduate education and training in engineering, science, acquisition, management and leadership.
CDS also provides specialist knowledge to global industry, security and emergency services, military, governments and NGOs. It means Cranfield Defence and Security is underpinning defence and security development and reform around the world.
The position will involve supervising post graduate students at Masters and Doctoral level, forging an active research agenda, and generating bids for research funding to various bodies including research councils, industry and government. The successful candidate will enhance the University’s professional standing, reputation and impact through their thought leadership and cutting edge research programme in their subject area.
Successful candidates should have a track record of high quality research publications and exceptional abilities in leading and attracting external funds for internationally leading research. They will also have experience in collaborative research involving academics from other disciplines. Candidates will have proven experience in providing vision, leadership and support in the development of research and a track record of delivering excellence in teaching through teaching programmes or internationally recognised text books. There must also be a willingness to travel both within the UK and overseas as required. Candidates will have a PhD in Analysis of Deterrence or other Analytical/Physical Sciences related discipline.

* Counter terrorism operations
* Counter terrorism technologies
* National resilience and security operations
* Historical analysis of terrorist and counter terrorist operations
* Analysis methods for evaluating terrorist and counter terrorist operations
* Analysis methods for evaluating national security threats
* Simulation and/or analysis of terrorist operations
* Autonomous vehicles
* Counter IEDs
* Protection of infrastructures and vehicles
* Ballistics and blast trauma
* Precision attack and weapons
* Police and Security service protection systems
