The University of Central Lancashire is seeking a Reader in Quantitative Methods to join the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing within the Lancashire Clinical Trials Unit.

The Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Central Lancashire is one of the largest providers of healthcare and sports education and professional development, offering flexible delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate modular-based courses and research degrees. Within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, the Lancashire Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), has been set up to manage health related trials for UCLan and external organisations. The Lancashire CTU team has accrued many years of experience in the skills required to develop, manage and analyse clinical trials with a growing specialisation in trials of complex interventions, in particular feasibility trials. The formulation of the Lancashire CTU structure was initiated in 2012 and is currently supporting national and international trials.

The successful individual will undertake internationally recognised research, and provide academic support for the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing’s programmatic research focussing on quantitative methods (including statistics, operational research or health economics). They will support the development of a research team and expand research and scientific support activity with colleagues and professional bodies to advance research across the Faculty in keeping with the Faculty Delivery Plan. In addition, they will contribute actively to the creation of a vibrant research environment and to the development of research strategy underpinning the sustainability of world-class research at the University. 

 

 Main Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. To make a significant contribution to methodological research enhancing research capacity and capability, knowledge transfer and scholarly activity within the faculty.
2. To undertake individual and lead team-based research in quantitative methods research within the Faculty
3. To develop and extend the Faculty’s network of contacts within researchers and practitioners within the area of quantitative methods, and to maximise the benefits of this network for existing and proposed courses, research and consultancy activities.
4. To maintain currency of knowledge through active participation in research, scholarship and/or practice.
5. To establish, and maintain, a sustainable methodological research team in the field, creating a research environment that fosters excellence and offers a first-class learning environment for research students and academic staff; ensuring effective staff appraisal and supporting academic and scholarly work.
6. To prepare and submit funding bids aimed at securing increasing levels of support for the Faculty’s research, course development and external liaison activities.
7. To undertake administration in relation to specified teaching and research responsibilities.
8. To work to appropriate targets as set by the Director of Lancashire CTU to secure a high quality teaching and learning environment for students.
9. To take day-to-day responsibility for the co-ordination of specific modules or courses, and, for certain designated modules/courses, provide leadership.
10. To undertake any other duties relevant to the Faculty’s activities and commensurate with the level of the post, as directed by the Director of Lancashire CTU and Executive Dean.
